26 What was the name of the shopkeeper at Shaun's newsagent?
Answer: Nelson

Shaun made the trip to this newsagent everyday, passing by a child playing football and always tripping over a certain kerb. He often asked Ed what he wanted and often bought Ed back a Cornetto. The second time in the film that we saw the shop, zombies had clearly entered as there were bloodstains everywhere.
trivia question Quick Question
One of Liz's records has made its way into Shaun's collection. Who is it by?

27 Whilst trying to reach the safety of the pub, Shaun runs into Yvonne. Which actress plays Yvonne?
Answer: Jessica Stevenson

Along with Simon Pegg, Jessica was the co-writer and star of "Spaced". While Shaun leads his group to the pub Yvonne, brandishing a golf club, is leading a group of her own. This second group comprises some of the best of current British TV comedy: Martin Freeman from "The Office"; Reece Shearsmith of "The League of Gentlemen"; Tamsin Greig from "Black Books" and "Green Wing"; Julia Deakin from "Spaced" and Matt Lucas of "Little Britain". None say much more than a word though.
28 What was the original idea for the film's title?
Answer: Tea-Time Of The Dead

This is mentioned on the bonus subtitles that give little pieces of trivia throughout the film. Eventually, they decided to play on the film title "Dawn Of The Dead", and came up with "Shaun Of The Dead".
29 When Ed does limited damage to a zombie with one of Shaun's records the boys take Shaun's vinyl collection outside and go on the attack. Shaun's a little over-protective of his tunes though - which is the first disc he allows Ed to throw?
Answer: Prince - "Batman"

As Shaun starts to warn Ed not to throw some records, Ed tosses a single, to no avail.

"Woah woah woah, what was that?"
"I think it was 'Blue Monday.'"
"Man, that was an original pressing!"

Ed then starts rifling through the collection, looking for something Shaun will part with:

"'Purple Rain?'"
"No."
"'Sign o' the Times?'"
"Definitely not."
"The 'Batman' soundtrack?"
"Throw it."

I love that Shaun obviously keeps his records in order, and presumably has other boxes of vinyl still inside.

Though mainly remembered for the song "Batdance", Prince wrote nine songs for the official soundtrack. The lyrics are all written from the perspective of characters in the movie.
30 Who shot Barbara?
Answer: Shaun

Barbara had been bitten by a zombie on the way to the pub and had hidden it from Shaun. Liz found out just as Barbara was dying and alerted Shaun. Realising that Barbara would return as a zombie David pointed a gun at her, at first Shaun disagreed but as his mum rose to her feet Shaun took the gun and shot Barbara in the head.
31 Which "Little Britain" actor had an unseen role?
Answer: David Walliams

Walliams portrayed an unseen newsreader in the film and reappeared in another of Pegg's films "Run, Fat Boy, Run" in 2007. Matt Lucas was in the film as a member of Shaun's old friend Yvonne's group of survivors and Paul Putner made a very brief appearance as a zombie.
32 What color does Shaun have on his shirt that people keep pointing out for him?
Answer: Red

Noel from the TV store brings it up, as does Barbara. It becomes ironic when Shaun gets covered in blood.
33 Who teaches Shaun and the others how to act like a zombie?
Answer: Dianne

Dianne is an aspiring actress. She quickly studies an impaled zombie and teaches the others how to pass themselves off as zombies so that they can get to the pub without attracting attention.

"Look at the face. It's vacant - with a hint of sadness, like a drunk who's lost a bet."
34 When Shaun asks Ed to give examples of the "Rich, interesting people" in the Winchester, who does Ed point to first?
Answer: Snakehips

What Ed says about the man known as Snakehips is:
"He's a serial bigamist. Strangled his first wife with a draught excluder , AND invented the mobile disco!"
35 One of Liz's records has made its way into Shaun's collection. Who is it by?
Answer: Sade

"Dire Straits?"
"Throw it."
"The Stone Roses?"
"No."
"Second Coming?"
"I like it!"
"Ah! Sade."
"That's Liz's."
"Yeah, but she did dump you."

Ed chucks "Diamond Life", the band's debut album, and it smashes on the big zombie's chest without doing any real damage.

Liz wasn't the only one buying the album - it went multi-platinum in both the US and the UK and sold six million copies worldwide. It held the record for best-selling debut by a British female vocalist for 24 years, when
Susan Boyle's debut album became the best-selling debut in UK chart history.
36 Which part of David is Dianne left holding?
Answer: Left Leg

David was standing against the wall, after threatening to leave the pub. Just as he was about to apologise to Shaun, the zombies broke through and grabbed David. They dragged him outside and began to rip his entrails out. Everyone grabbed his legs and attempted to pull him inside but the leg came off and Dianne ran outside holding it.
37 What was the name of the girl in the garden?
Answer: Mary

Ed pointed out that there was a girl in the garden. She was obviously a zombie, but Shaun and Ed just thought she was drunk. She jumped on Shaun and attempted to bite him. Shaun eventually shoved her away and she became impaled on a pole. She then got up with a hole through her stomach, only then did they realise something wasn't quite right.
38 When Shaun and Ed are fighting off the zombies near their house, they use records. Which one of the records does Ed throw that belonged to Liz?
Answer: Sade

"Sade?"
"No, that's Liz's"
"She dumped you!"
Zen Coming and Prince were not thrown, but the "Batman" soundtrack was, because it wasn't very good.
39 Who receives a phone call, which alerts the zombies to the fact that the group is still alive?
Answer: Ed

The zombies are initially fooled by the group's zombie impersonations but as the dead can't talk the group's cover is blown when Ed receives a call and starts talking to his friend. The ensuing argument between Shaun and Ed doesn't help matters either.
40 Which Northern Irish alternative rock outfit had three different songs play in the movie?
Answer: Ash

Ed plays "Meltdown" and "Orpheus" in his car, and a cover of "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" by the Buzzcocks plays when Shaun buys his mum some flowers. Chris Martin of Coldplay lends his voice to the cover and appears as himself promoting the charity "Zombaid" and as a zombie when Shaun and Liz ascend from the Winchester basement.

Ash started as a three piece outfit, Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray. The lads recorded two albums before recruiting Charlotte Hatherley, who worked with them for three albums, including the songs featured in "Shaun of the Dead". Hatherley then departed from the band, and the boys have since put out a further three albums.

Hatherley's mother, Patricia Franklin, can be seen in all three of the films in the "Three Flavours Cornetto" trilogy.

The band's first top 40 single, "Girl From Mars", is one of my favourite songs, and has been used by NASA as the hold music on their telephone lines.
41 What limb was the zombie that broke into the house missing?
Answer: Left arm

The newsreader reminded them to keep their doors and windows secure, at which point Shaun and Ed realised that the front door was open. When they looked up, a particularly nasty looking zombie was advancing on them, missing his left arm. Ed hit it over the head and it fell down dead.
42 How many different plans did Shaun think of BEFORE deciding on his last one?
Answer: 2

The first one included killing Philip (Bill Nighy), picking up Barbara, and going and staying at Liz' house. The second still included killing Philip, and picking up Shaun's mom, but they would bring everyone back to Shaun's flat. The final one (the one that was chosen) involved killing Philip, and bringing everyone to the Winchester.
43 After reaching the safety of the Winchester, who is the first of the group to die?
Answer: Barbara

Unbeknownst to the group, Barbara had been bitten by a zombie on the way to the pub, but hadn't mentioned this as she didn't want to make a fuss. She became a zombie herself and had to be killed by her son Shaun.

David was killed by the zombies, prompting his girlfriend Dianne to set about them, brandishing one of David's legs as a cudgel - if you watch the DVD extras you'll find out that she escaped the zombies by hiding in a tree. Ed is bitten and becomes a zombie but by the end of the movie is living chained up in Shaun's shed, playing computer games.
44 Which character gives a big clue as to what the final scene of the film is, without realising it?
Answer: Pete

What he says to Ed is "You wanna be an animal? Why don't you go live in the shed?" After Ed dies and becomes a zombie, Shaun keeps him in the shed playing Playstation two games all the time.
45 Of course, the musical moment most people remember is when the jukebox randomly pops a Queen song on just as the gang start to dispatch John, the undead publican. Which song do the gang choreograph their attack with?
Answer: Don't Stop Me Now

"David, kill the Queen!"
"What?"
"The jukebox!"

"You're My Best Friend" does play at the end, when Shaun and Ed play video games in the shed. I do love a happy ending!

"Don't Stop Me Now" reached number on the British singles chart, yet due to persistent use of the song in TV, movies and adverts, the song remains one of the bands most popular songs. In 2015 electronics company Alba asked 2,000 UK adults to name their favourite uplifting song, and "Don't Stop Me Now" was the most common answer.
46 Who had alerted the army and rescued Shaun and Liz at the end of the film?
Answer: Yvonne

Shaun and Liz had escaped from The Winchester and were facing an ominous crowd of zombies. Then several large armoured trucks appeared and many of the zombies were destroyed by soldiers. Then Yvonne exited and took out a zombie with her golf club.
47 What blunt object did David take from Liz's flat?
Answer: Umbrella

Shaun and Ed rushed round and picked up Shaun's mum and step-dad before going to Liz's and persuading her to come with them. He then told them to each pick up a blunt object and hit the zombies in the head. They then left the flat, eliminating many zombies on their way.
48 Who is responsible for bringing the army to the Winchester to save Shaun and Liz?
Answer: Yvonne

Having escaped from the pub through the cellar hatch, Shaun and Liz thought they were done-for until the army arrived, brought by Yvonne who was still brandishing her golf club.
49 When the credits play you can hear "Mall Muzak", from which George A. Romero flick?
Answer: Dawn of the Dead

Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are obviously big Romero fans, so it's nice to know that Romero was a fan of their movie, going so far as to cast them as prominently featured zombies in "Land of the Dead".

"Dawn of the Dead" was set in and around a mall, with survivors trying to keep the zombie hordes at bay. "Mall Muzak" can be heard frequently.
50 Who died on the way to The Winchester?
Answer: Philip

Philip was bitten as they tried to get from the house to the car. He bled throughout the journey and reconciled with Shaun before dying. Shaun then ordered Ed to pull over. Philip returned as a zombie and they were forced to escape the car, inadvertently shutting their blunt objects inside.
